About Firas Miro

Bio

Firas Miro is an artist born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to a multiethnic family of Arabic, Italian, Spanish, and German descent. As a child, while flipping through the final pages of his family’s History of Art book, he came across a 12th-century Japanese painting from the Jingoku Sōshi (“hell scrolls”). The image captivated him - how a work of art could portray such suffering, yet appear so subjectively beautiful.  Thus began a lifelong exploration of emotional expression, perception, and the power of visual art.

At age 11, Firas moved with his family to the United States, settling in the San Francisco Bay Area for the next decade. After a brief period in New York City, he returned to San Francisco, where he immersed himself in the vibrant colors and spirit of the Mission District. There, he began painting, eventually securing an art  studio in the Hunters Point  Box Shop. In that space, he taught himself to work with oils, an intuitive and solitary process he considers a personal pilgrimage.

Firas now lives and works in Los Angeles where channeling the powerful beauty of subconscious expression remains his constant devotion.
